ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup II was opened in Barnaul.
The ceremony started on the 21th of May with the performance of Kalinka dance and flag raising by the young sportsmen Artem Piskoun and Maria Meshkova. After that the welcome letter of Russian President Vladimir Putin was read out.
The governor of Altai region Victor Tomenko said: Dear friends, welcome to Altai! It is a great honor for our region to meet such an important international competition. For several days Barnaul become the center of the world canoeing. Thanks for the sportsmen for the possibility of seeing all the beauty of this sport. Wish the competitors good luck, and plenty of pleasant emotions to the fans.
The Vice-president of ICF Tomas Konietzko said that to hold this competition here in Barnaul was one of the best decisions of International Canoe Federation. He pointed out the hospitality of local people and the high level of organization. He is sure that all the sportsmen were also impressed by this.
Tomas Konietzko declared the World Cup opened and after that the flag of ICF was raised by the young local canoeist Vladlen Ushakov.
